Argentinos Abroad: Wanchope Ábila golazo can’t prevent Cruzeiro defeat, D’Alessandro & Cuesta miss penalties in Internacional loss but Mancuello champion with Flamengo (VIDEO)
The Brazilian state championships concluded on Sunday and there were commiserations and congratulations due to a number of Argentinians.
Federico Mancuello, Darío Conca and Alejandro Donatti of Flamengo celebrated a 3-1 aggregate win over Fluminense to capture the Campeonato Carioca but others were not so fortunate.
Ramón Wanchope Ábila scored a terrific, acrobatic volley for Cruzeiro to cancel out Robinho’s first half goal but Elias won it for Atlético Mineiro with 20 minutes remaining. After a goalless first leg, the 2-1 win was enough to lift the Campeonato Mineiro.
And in the Campeonato Gaúcho, Internacional were forced to penalties by Novo Hamburgo after a 3-3 draw on aggregate but Andrés D’Alessandro and former Independiente captain both saw their efforts hit the crossbar allowing the home side to seal a 3-1 shootout victory.
