A clásico win is always important but for San Lorenzo, Saturday’s clash with Huracán had even greater importance if Los Cuervos were to remain on the heels of Boca Juniors at the top of the Primera.
Diego Aguirre’s side needed to ride their luck at times in the Estadio Tomás Adolfo Ducó but snatched the crucial three points when Marcos Angeleri nodded in from close range just before the hour mark.
Huracán are probably already safe for this season at least but will wonder how they failed to find a way past Nicolás Navarro before being punished by Angeleri. It was far from a convincing San Lorenzo display but the battling qualities that have pulled them through in recent weeks were evident and El Ciclón are just three points off the top of the table.
In Bahía Blanca, Olimpo boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over Aldosivi and despite remaining in the bottom four will have a renewed belief.
Fernando Coniglio and Rodrigo Cabalucci struck in either half to earn the valuable three points and increase their visitors worries, that they might be dragged into relegation zone.
Aldosivi have now lost seven consecutive matches, scoring just once in the process and have a final six fixtures against all five of the grandes before a final day return against Olimpo.
Huracán 0 – 1 San Lorenzo
Olimpo 2 – 0 Aldosivi
