The fate of Sarmiento and Atlético de Rafaela could have been sealed this weekend but both clubs look ready to fight until the bitter end with victories on Friday evening over Defensa y Justicia and Godoy Cruz respectively.
Atlético travelled to Mendoza, where Godoy Cruz are usually a difficult side to beat, but came away with an impressive 2-0 win thanks to second half goals from Fernando Luna and Santiago Paz.
While earlier in Junín, Sarmiento ended Defensa y Justicia’s fine run of form to at least mathematically remain in the top flight. On-loan striker Brian Fernández scored his third goal in as many games, pouncing on a rare error by Alexander Barboza to snatch all three points.
