Both Argentine clubs in Copa Libertadores action on Thursday evening still have plenty of work to do but will be slight favourites to progress to the quarter-finals after securing decent away results.
San Lorenzo take a 1-0 advantage back to the Nuevo Gasómetro after Fernando Belluschi’s fine free-kick handed Diego Aguirre’s side victory over Emelec. Los Cuervos needed to dig deep to hold their lead but with the away goal, will be confident that they can avoid defeat in one month.
Lanús weren’t quite able to secure victory on their travels but from a potentially difficult trip to face The Strongest, Jorge Almirón’s side managed to come away with a 1-1 draw. Nicolás Pasquini tremendous long range effort gave El Granate the lead and while the home side dominated for large parts, it wasn’t until stoppage time that Diego Bejarano backheeled an equaliser.
The Bolivians were certainly deserving of at least a draw but will know that such wastefulness in La Fortaleza will be punished.
The Strongest 1 – 1 Lanús
Emelec 0 – 1 San Lorenzo
