Martín Palermo and Fernando Cavenaghi led out Boca Juniors and River Plate legends sides for the inauguration of the estadio de ‘La Pedrera’ in San Luis on Saturday evening and although Los Millonarios fought back to draw level, a missed penalty wasted the chance to seal victory.
Almost 30,000 supporters packed into the new stadium saw Palermo strike twice to give Boca a commanding lead. The first from the penalty spot was followed by a deft finish over goalkeeper Alejandro Saccone.
However, recently appointed Argentina under-15 coach Diego Placente pulled one back for River before Ariel Franco drilled in an equaliser.
Cavenaghi had the chance to win it for River but missed the target from the penalty spot meaning honours were even.
