Despite an earlier transfer to Inter Milan collapsing, Emanuel Cecchini’s hopes of playing European football have not been dashed and the 20-year-old will be plying his trade in La Liga next season with Málaga.
After an outstanding breakthrough season that resulted in Banfield clinching a Copa Libertadores spot, Cecchini was on the radar of a number of clubs but has now completed a €4 million transfer, with a potential further €1 million added on, to the Malaguistas.
The dynamic midfielder has passed his medical and signed a deal until 2022.

Cecchini made his Banfield debut as a sixteen-year-old under Matías Almeyda but it has been as part of Julio César Falcioni’s midfield over the past year that the 20-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in Argentina.
27 appearances in the Primera as Banfield mounted a surprise title challenge, there were few more important players for El Taladro than the academy product and Málaga appear to securing a bargain at such a price.
Something of an all-rounder in midfield, Cecchini covers ground, wins possession, is an excellent passer of the ball and scored four goals with his intelligent running from deep.
There is always a degree of uncertainty stepping up from Argentina’s Primera to a level such as La Liga but Cecchini seems equipped and it could prove an ideal environment to aid his development.
