On Thursday, San Lorenzo will host Emelec in their Copa Libertadores last 16 second leg and Diego Aguirre’s side were given a boost ahead of the game with a 3-0 friendly victory over Peñarol in the Nuevo Gasómetro.
The slight concern for San Lorenzo was Nicolás Blandi limping off during the second half but his replacement, Nicolás Reniero proved decisive in securing the win.
Blandi and Ezequiel Cerutti had both missed chances during the goalless first half but several changes and the introduction of plenty of new faces, Los Cuervos took control.
Gabriel Gudiño, a recent signing from Atlético de Rafaela, found Reniero and the 22-year-old’s first touch and finish were precise.
Gudiño then smashed in a second before Peñarol were reduced to ten men and San Lorenzo added a third, Reniero heading in an Alexis Castro free kick.
