Argentinos Abroad: Bou breaks Xolos duck & Funes Mori helps Monterrey top in Liga MX while Valeri & Piatti score in MLS (VIDEO)

Eduardo Coudet is already feeling the heat in Tijuana and while Gustavo Bou managed to score his side’s first goal of the season away to Puebla on Friday, Xolos remain bottom of the table. After his excellent work with Rosario Central, expectations were high of Chacho and certainly the signing of Bou only added to that but it has so far been hugely underwhelming. The hope will be that Bou’s equaliser and first point of the campaign will now see Xolos gather momentum.

At the other end of the table, Monterrey are beginning to click and Antonio Mohamed’s side made light work of champions Chivas with a 4-1 win to go top. Rogelio Funes Mori played a neat one-two with Dorlan Pabon to score his side’s second of the night and his first of the campaign.

Club América are up to second after a 1-0 win over Atlas but were indebted to goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin after the former Lanús number one stopped a Milton Caraglio penalty before Oribe Peralta notched a stoppage time winner.

Club León inflicted a first defeat of the season on Necaxa thanks in part to Argentine strike duo Mauro Boselli and Jorge Pereyra Diaz. Boselli’s chest down was dispatched by Pereyra Diaz just after half time and in stoppage time, Boselli ran clear to finish off a counter and complete a 3-0 win.

Former Atlético Tucumán centre forward Cristian Menéndez is already proving something of a hit and on Sunday scored again as Veracruz defeated Santos Laguna 3-2.

Across the border, two of Major League Soccer’s most successful Argentine imports were both on target. Diego Valeri scored his 13th goal of the season with a superbly taken solo effort but it counted for little with his Portland Timbers side already trailing Toronto FC 4-0.

Ignacio Piatti had a better weekend with the former San Lorenzo playmaker scoring from the penalty spot as Montreal Impact defeated Philadelphia Union 3-0.
