While many questioned whether Juventus could win a seventh consecutive Serie A title after defeat to Lazio in the Supercoppa, the Bianconeri made a relatively comfortable start to their campaign with a 3-0 win over Cagliari.
The champions started well on top and took only twelve minutes to find their first goal when Mario Mandzukic steered a volley into the bottom corner but when the Video Assist Referee (VAR) awarded Cagliari a penalty, the visitors had the perfect opportunity.
Gianluigi Buffon saved Matias Farias’ effort and the miss proved costly.
Miralem Pjanic’s wonderful pass over the top released Paulo Dybala and the 23-year-old, who scored twice in the Supercoppa defeat, expertly brought the ball down before emphatically finishing his first league goal of the season.
Dybala would later hit the bar with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area before Gonzalo Higuaín wrapped up the points with a low, left-footed finish.
