Rosario Central ensured that there was not another Copa Argentina upset with victory over Nacional B side Deportivo Riestra in La Paternal.
After threatening on a number of occasions during the goalless first half, Fernando Zampedri eventually broke the deadlock, pouncing on a rebound after goalkeeper Carlos Morel had parried a goal-bound header.
Riestra were soon level when Central midfielder Elías Gómez flicked a corner into his own net but José Leguizamón restored the Superliga club’s lead seven minutes later.
Paolo Montero’s side held on for the victory to provide a birthday gift for the Uruguayan coach and El Canalla now await either Guillermo Brown or Boca Juniors in the last 16.
