Next Generation: Simeone on target, Paredes strengthens Argentina calls & Stefanelli hits hat-trick (VIDEO)

Simon Penrose returns with the latest update in his ‘Next Generation’ series. Updates from his player focus and who else has been impressing in Europe this week?

Fiorentina’s struggle continues but Giovanni Simeone impressed again netting another goal for the Viola in a 2-1 defeat to Chievo. The 22-year-old striker’s movement was sublime as he ghosted past two Chievo defenders to nod home a Cyril Théréau cross. In truth, Simeone could have had a hat trick before Chievo pulled a goal back and was unlucky and a little wasteful not to add to his tally. Unfortunately due to the Fiorentina’s poor start, Simeone is impressing but not starring in a team that appears drastically low on confidence.

Ezequiel Ponce’s Lille’s match was abandoned due to crowd injury so he did not have a chance to shine, while in Russia Sebastian Driussi played a role from the bench as Zenit made an unbelievable comeback.

The Zenit fightback was led by the superb Leandro Paredes, the dynamic midfielder was the driving force in midfield and capped a fantastic display with a fiercely struck, albeit deflected, goal to equalise. In a team full of top class players, Paredes is impressing week on week. It seems remarkably strange that Roma let him go for such a relatively small price.

Both Joaquin and Angel Correa had disappointing afternoons with Joaquin being hauled off in Sevilla’s 2-0 victory over Malaga and Angel substituted in a dull 0-0 away at Leganes. Their respective managers will be hoping for more after the international break.

Sebastian Colombatto featured heavily for Perugia in a disappointing 2-1 loss away at Brescia but is building on his appearances with each passing game and remains an exciting talent.

Nicolás Stefanelli scored a stunning hat-trick for AIK in a 5-2 win over Elfsborg in the Swedish top flight, taking his season tally to eight. The 22-year-old has now struck six times in his last four games and is proving great value since completing the switch from Defensa y Justicia.

Daniel Mancini’s Tours slipped to bottom of Ligue 2 after yet another defeat, however the Argentine continues to impress in a very poor outfit.

There will be more ‘Next Generation’ every week so keep your eyes peeled.
