After two consecutive defeats, injury stricken Boca Juniors bounced back to defeat Arsenal in La Bombonera thanks to goals from Guido Vadalá and Edwin Cardona and it was just as well as in-form San Lorenzo had already sealed a second win the space of a few days against Tigre to move three points clear. The champions remain with a game in hand but the Superliga has a title race that didn’t look likely a few weeks ago.
Colón tasted defeat for the first time, Unión dropped points at home to Belgrano and Huracán did the same against Patronato to leave Boca and San Lorenzo out on their own, five points adrift at the top.
Meanwhile, River Plate’s problems continue ahead of next week’s Copa Argentina final after defeat to Gimnasia in La Plata and Racing Club were unable to produce an immediate upturn in form after the departure of Diego Cocca with a draw against Newell’s.
And in the decenso table, Chacarita Juniors and Arsenal suffered defeats to remain odds-on for the drop, Temperley showed a bit of fight to salvage a draw against Argentinos Juniors, and Olimpo’s win meant the Aurinegro closed the gap on Patronato and Vélez.
