After three consecutive defeats, Defensa y Justicia needed a victory and despite suffering a late scare, El Halcón managed to secure an exciting 4-2 win over Chacarita Juniors on Friday evening.
The visitors were coming off a valuable win against Vélez but fell behind early thanks to a superb strike by Leonel Miranda from 25 yards. In spite of the early set back, Chacarita were a constant threat and between Juan Imbert crashing a shot against the crossbar when he should have scored and Mauro Matos having a goal wrongly ruled out for offside, Los Funebreros were unlucky to be trailing at the break.
After wasting such chances it was almost inevitable that Chacarita would be punished and just after the hour mark, Nicolás Fernández got in behind and produced a delicate lobbed finish over goalkeeper Pedro Fernández for his eighth of the season.
When Fabián Bordagaray made it three with fifteen minutes remaining the points looked secure but Alejandro Gagliardi immediately volleyed a reply and moments later the lead a Facundo Rodríguez header cut the lead to just one.
With ten minutes remaining the points were anyone’s until Fernando Márquez produced a sweetly struck free-kick to re-establish Defensa y Justicia’s lead and finally ensure the win.

Colón also reversed a recent run of poor form with almost a trademark display against Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario. Eduardo Domínguez’s side have enjoyed success in the past year built upon their firm defensive foundations and so it proved once more.
Newell’s were the better side for large parts of Friday’s clash but as usual lacked cutting edge and unable to find a way through Colón’s back four were ultimately caught out at a set-piece. El Sabalero are always dangerous on the counter and when the big centre-backs make their way into the opposition penalty area and with eight minutes remaining the visitors showed why. Cristian Guanca’s corner was swung over from the left and Guillermo Ortíz rose to powerfully head into the back of the net.
A little earlier in Santa Fe and Unión were left to rue two dropped points as relegation certainties Arsenal managed to leave the Estadio 15 de Abril with a point.
El Tatengue have been one of the surprise packages of the Superliga season but following last week’s defeat to ten-man Rosario Central were unable to find a way past bottom of the table Arsenal. Lucas Gamba may have been out injured but Unión, normally so strong on their own turf, should have had more than enough to beat Sergio Rondina’s strugglers. And it could have in fact been worse with Facundo Quintana missing the best chance for the visitors, slicing wide when one-on-one with with goalkeeper Nereo Fernández.
