Only Racing Club have gone to Mendoza this season and come away with anything but Colón came within seconds of leaving with a hard earned point before Santiago García chalked up yet another victory for Godoy Cruz and sent El Tomba third.
Colón will feel they did enough for a draw after creating a number of decent chances but switching off momentarily allowed the dangerous García to slide in his ninth goal of the season in stoppage time.
Tomás Cardona had bundled an ugly opener for the home side during the first half only for substitute Tomás Chancalay to rifle in an equaliser in the 78th minute.
That looked enough to earn the visitors a point to strengthen their Copa Sudamericana qualification chances but García ensured that it was Godoy Cruz who celebrated victory and took another step towards a place in the 2019 Copa Libertadores.
Godoy Cruz 2 – 1 Colón
Earlier in Bahía Blanca, Olimpo and Temperley could only edge themselves closer to relegation after a share of the points that helps neither side.
Emiliano Tellechea gave Olimpo and early lead from the penalty spot after Ezequiel Vidal has been tripped by goalkeeper Josué Ayala but Fernando Brandán headed Temperley level just before the break.
Neither could muster a winner and so their descent to the Nacional B is now surely a matter of time with only six matches remaining.
