Three of the four relegation places are already confirmed and while Chacarita Juniors are not mathematically with Arsenal, Temperley and Olimpo just yet, that could change tomorrow after Los Funebreros were beaten by Colón.
Chacarita’s hopes already hung by a thread but defeat has now taken it well out of their control.
Marcelo Estigarribia’s volley and Javier Correa’s close range poke into the net, gave Colón a two-goal half time lead in Villa Maipú and Chacarita rarely looked like getting back into it.
The result means that Vélez taking anything from their game on Monday against San Lorenzo would guarantee relegation. Even in the event that Chacarita survive until next weekend, only four straight wins and nothing for Vélez between now and end of the season would be enough.
Chacarita Juniors 0 – 2 Colón
Estudiantes remained in the hunt for a Copa Sudamericana spot with victory over Patronato in Paraná.
Lucas Rodríguez slotted past Sebastián Bértoli after half an hour and when Patronato saw Wálter Andrade sent off and substitute Damián Lemos also shown a red card on the sidelines, hopes of a comeback faded.
Juan Otero and Lucas Melano both missed clear chances to extend the lead but Estudiantes held on for three points.
Earlier in Santa Fe, Tigre roared back to secure an injury time point against Unión having trailed by two until the 83rd minute.
Franco Fragapane slipped Unión ahead midway through the first half and when Franco Soldano doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 75th minute, the points looked safe.
Ignacio Canuto headed a goal back against his former club and a minute later, Federico González smashed in an equaliser.
As tempers flared Manuel de Iriondo and Sebastián Prediger were both sent off and with both teams down to ten, Unión snatched what looked like a winner, Canuto slicing the ball into his own net.
However, Nereo Fernández’s costly error allowed another González shot to slip through his grasp and Carlos Luna was on hand to bundle another leveller.
