All the goals from Round 23: Boca slip up against Independiente as Godoy Cruz close gap, cup qualification hots up & relegation is sealed (VIDEO)

A Boca Juniors stumble has once more opened the door ever so slightly in the title race as in-form Godoy Cruz managed to close the lead at the top to four points with four rounds remaining.

Boca made the short trip to Avellaneda to face Copa Libertadores chasing Independiente following last week’s defeat to Defensa y Justicia. There was little between the sides but Martín Benítez’s second half goal sealed it and while Boca continue to argue over an injury time penalty not given, the truth is that Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side are a shadow of the side that opened up such a commanding lead.

Godoy Cruz are now four points adrift after chalking up a fifth straight win. Temperley were never likely to pose a threat and so there was no surprise when Superliga leading scorer Santiago García scored twice in a routine 3-0 win. The result all but confirms El Tomba in the 2019 Copa Libertadores and sealed Temperley’s relegation.

Olimpo joined them after defeat to San Martín in Bahía Blanca and Chacarita Juniors completed the quartet after a loss to Colón on Sunday was followed by Vélez Sarsfield snatching a point against San Lorenzo.

That result left Los Cuervos in third, a point ahead of Independiente and Talleres sitting in the final Libertadores spot after defeat to Newell’s.

The competition for Sudamericana qualification is equally fierce with Huracán in sixth after a win over Argentinos Juniors and Racing Club four points behind following a thrilling 3-2 defeat to Defensa y Justicia in Florencio Varela.

River Plate secured a fifth consecutive Superliga win with two second half goals against Rosario Central on Sunday and Marcelo Gallardo’s side suddenly look certainties for one of those Sudamericana places.

However, only three points separate Racing in seventh and Atlético Tucumán in fifteenth. River along with a host of other clubs all have plenty of work to do to ensure that top eleven finish.

So, in case you missed any of the action, here are all the games, all the goals and how the table looks after round twenty three…
