There was nothing between the two sides after a full season in the B Nacional but Aldosivi ensured it was a swift return to Argentina’s top flight after a 3-1 win in their title decider in Sarandí.
El Tiburón were one of the sides to drop out of the Primera at the creation of the Superliga and with the number of clubs being reduced over the coming years, a quick promotion was vital.
That hung in the balance but with Almagro drawing on the final day of the regular season, Aldosivi were able to draw level and force Friday’s playoff.
Arnaldo González settled the nerves early from the penalty spot and while Leonardo Acosta pulled Almagro level with a penalty of their own, Aldosivi immediately restored their lead. Emiliano Ellacopulos slotting in a rebound after Christian Limousin could only parry Nahuel Yeri’s effort.
With Almagro committing players forward, the game opened up for Aldosivi and ten minutes from time, dreadful defending by Brian Mieres allowed Cristian Chávez to run clear and chip Limousin for number three.
Aldosivi held on for the win and celebrated not only the B Nacional title but a place in the Superliga next season. Almagro can’t afford to dwell on the disappointment as the playoffs for the second promotion spot begin almost immediately and a quarter final against Agropecuario lies ahead.
