A place in the 2019 Copa Libertadores was on the line in the clash between two of the Superliga’s surprise packages and the goalless draw between Talleres and Huracán left La T now on the outside in the race for qualification.
Frank Kudelka and everyone inside the Estadio Mario Kempes will certainly feel that Talleres did enough for the points with referee Mauro Vigliano waving away two strong penalty claims.
Both sides had chances but just as they have in recent weeks, Huracán managed to cling onto a clean sheet and it was enough for an invaluable point. El Globo sit in fourth, two points ahead of Talleres in sixth with only one game remaining.
Talleres 0 – 0 Huracán
With four impressive wins in a row, Defensa y Justicia were one of the Superliga’s form teams but that came to an end in Rosario as Newell’s Old Boys secured an impressive victory.
El Halcón were not at their recent level and so Alexis Rodríguez’s first half strike was enough for all three points.
And in Tucumán, a below-par display by Atlético saw relegated Olimpo claim a deserved draw.
Perhaps fatigued by their Copa Libertadores exploits, Olimpo caused problems throughout and were unfortunate to be behind when Leandro Díaz blasted in from the penalty after a harsh handball decision.
However, Lucas Mancinelli’s wonderful free-kick three minutes from time earned the Aurinegro a point.
