While Nacional B side Club Atlético Brown ensured there was at least one more Copa Argentina upset this year with victory over San Martín de San Juan, Superliga outfits Colón and Gimnasia avoided any slip-ups to progress to the last 32.
That’s not to say either side were not made to sweat and Colón particularly were taken to the limit by Deportivo Morón in the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.
Javier Correa raced onto a long ball over the Morón defence to clip in the opening goal but shortly after half time Román Martínez, back at his boyhood club, volleyed El Gallo level.
Morón looked the more likely winners inside the 90 minutes but with neither side able to find a goal, the tie went to penalties. Two saves by recent signing Leonardo Burián won it for Colón and El Sabalero will now face San Lorenzo in the next round.
Colón 1 – 1 Morón (4-3 on penalties)
Earlier in Temperley, Lucas Licht’s skidding shot from distance ten minutes from time gave Gimnasia a 1-0 win over Torneo Federal A side Sportivo Belgrano. Santiago Silva’s missed first half penalty looked as though it could prove costly before Licht struck to set up a tie with Olimpo.
But there was one upset as Club Atlético Brown de Adrogue defeated San Martín de San Juan on penalties. A goalless draw in Morón forced the match to be decided at the spot and eventually Marcelo Lamas smashed in the decisive shot for the Nacional B club. Independiente lie ahead for Brown.
