Banfield have it all to do next week back at the Estadio Florencio Sola after slipping to a 1-0 defeat against Boston River in Montevideo.

A wet and blustery evening produced less than ideal conditions and while the home side had the better of the match for large parts, the recently returned Banfield midfielder Emanuel Cecchini headed wide from a one of the first half’s only clear chances.

Boston River took the lead on the hour mark when a deep cross from the right found Robert Ergas at the back post and the ball was thrashed past Iván Arboleda into the net.

Without the injured Darío Cvitanich, Banfield were short of goal scoring options and while Boca loanee Marcelo Torres and youngster Michael López tried, they lacked the presence that the experienced Cvitanich brings.

The two sides meet once more in a week with Banfield having to overturn the deficit if they are to set up a clash against either Defensa y Justicia or El Nacional in the last 16.
