You would be forgiven for not remembering Ezequiel Chimy Ávila for his relatively fleeting spell at San Lorenzo but the Argentinian announced himself in LaLiga with a stunning late equaliser for newly promoted Huesca against Athletic Club.
San Mames is a formidable place to go for any club but for minnows Huesca, experiencing their first season in the top flight it was expected to be a certain first defeat of the campaign.
Two-down with 20 minutes remaining, Athletic Club looked to be on course for three points but Jorge Miramón pulled a goal back and after Huesca’s Argentinian manager Leo Franco turned to compatriot Ávila from the bench, the Oscenses claimed a famous point.
Three minutes of normal time remained when Ávila flicked the ball up and then hit a sweetly struck volley on the turn into the top corner.
The Rosario-born attacking midfielder spent a couple of years at San Lorenzo after joining from home town club Tiro Federal in 2015. However, with first team opportunities limited, Ávila switched Bajo Flores for Huesca.
A vital part in the tiny Spanish club achieving promotion to LaLiga last season, Ávila’s loan from San Lorenzo was extended for another year and if his first top flight goal is anything to go by, the 24-year-old could really make a name for himself.
