Argentinos Juniors see off Banfield & ten-man Central Córdoba take point from Talleres (VIDEO)

After back-to-back draws still unbeaten Argentinos Juniors secured their first win of the season with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Banfield in La Paternal on Friday evening.

A touching tribute to World Cup winner José Luis Brown, who died in the week, took place before kick-off and it didn’t take long for the action itself to serve up a fitting homage.

Banfield saw an early penalty appeal for handball turned down before Damián Batallini curled in a superb opener for Argentinos from just outside the box. The lead was doubled five minutes before the break when Iván Colman’s cross was headed into his own net by Luciano Lollo but some lapse defending at the other end allowed Sergio Vittor to volley Banfield a lifeline.

Gabriel Hauche drew a fingertips save from Esteban Conde after the restart with the game in the balance. Hernán Crespo’s Banfield chalked up a much needed win before the break but were desperate for a run of form and that slipped away twenty minutes from time as Hauche tapped in a third on the counter.

Agustín Fontana managed to claw a goal back late on but it was only a consolation leaving Argentinos to celebrate victory.

Later in Córdoba, Central Córdoba De Santiago del Estero followed up their famous win before the break with a valuable point against Talleres.

La T will know it was two points dropped having dominated the early stages and threatened the visitors goal prior to Juan Méndez heading the opener on the half hour mark.

Nahuel Bustos spurned two glorious opportunities to extend the lead and after the break Talleres lost their way.

José Adolfo Valencia blazing over the crossbar from in front of goal for Central Córdoba was a let off and when the visitors had Marcelo Meli sent off for throwing the ball at the linesman, Talleres should have been able to see out the result.

However, the ten men from Santiago del Estero continued to come forward and substitute Lisandro Alzugaray skidded a low shot past Guido Herrera after 64 minutes. The visitors were able to hold on for the draw and with it remain clear of relegation for now.
