In a title race that no one seems to want to take the initiative, Lanús climbed level with Boca and Argentinos Juniors after a 1-0 win over Racing Club.
La Academia could have themselves joined the leaders with victory in La Fortaleza but a limp display for Eduardo Coudet’s last game in charge ended in defeat. Leonel Di Plácido’s low shot deflecting in off Eugenio Mena in the 77th minute enough to give Lanús all three points and end the year on a high.
Newell’s Old Boys didn’t exactly put their poor run of form to bed but did come back twice to claim a point away to Atlético Tucumán. Javier Toledo put Atlético ahead on the counter during the first half but a Maxi Rodríguez penalty quickly cancelled it out and despite Toledo restoring the lead after the break, Luis Leal brought Newell’s level once more.
A flare up late on saw both sides reduced to ten men with Rodrigo Salinas and Yonathan Cabral sent off and although Leal had a glorious chance to win it for Newell’s, it ended all square.
Earlier in Parque Patricios, Huracán’s woeful run of form continued with Arsenal picking up a 2-0 win. El Globo now failing to score in seven of their last nine games as they plummet down the table. Second half goals from Juan Kaprof and Juan Manuel García sealing victory for Arsenal.
And in Córdoba, it ended goalless between Talleres and Unión.
