Argentinos Juniors fall to Copa Sudamericana exit in Peru while Atlético Tucumán suffer Libertadores penalty heartbreak (VIDEO)

A disappointing night for Argentinian football as two sides saw their hopes of progressing in CONMEBOL competition brought to an early end.

Argentinos Juniors were made to pay for the 1-1 draw in La Paternal two weeks ago and unable to find a way past Sport Huancayo in the altitude of Peru, Diego Dabove’s side crashed out on away goals.

The goalless draw away from home not enough to secure a place in the next round of the Copa Sudamericana and after a 2019 that ended so positively with Argentinos Juniors dreaming of a Superliga title challenge, 2020 has already put paid to a number of those dreams.

It was equally bad news for Atlético Tucumán, who were unable to repeat the feat of the previous round and were eliminated in the third round of the Copa Libertadores by Independiente Medellín.

Just as they did two weeks against The Strongest, Atlético did overturn the first leg deficit in the 90 minutes, Leonardo Heredia smashing in a first half volley to level things up.

However, unable to find a second the tie went to penalties and the Colombians were perfect from the spot. Leandro Díaz and Augusto Lotti failing to score handed the shootout to the side from Medellín and it is they who take a place in Libertadores Group H.
