The celebrations continued in La Bombonera on Tuesday night as Boca Juniors followed up Saturday’s Superliga title triumph with a 3-0 win over Independiente Medellín in the Copa Libertadores.

Last week’s 1-1 draw away to Caracas had meant Boca needed to get up and running in this year’s Libertadores and Eduardo Salvio’s header ten minutes before half time set Miguel Ángel Russo’s side on the right path.

If the game remained in the balance at that point an excellent second half display completely blew Independiente Medellín away.

Salvio rolled in his second of the game with ease and Emanuel Reynoso capped off the win with an exquisite free-kick.

Libertad’s win over Caracas means it is the Paraguayans who lead Group H. Boca travel to Asunción next week knowing that they can take top spot with a win and take a firm grip on their progression to the last 16.

It was less positive for Tigre, who are looking increasingly out of their depth in this year’s Copa Libertadores.

That is perhaps expected for the side currently plying their trade in the Primera Nacional but it was all too easy for Bolívar to inflict Tigre’s second defeat of the group stage.

Luck and poor finishing had kept it goalless until half time but it took only a couple of minute for Jorge Flores to blast a 30-yarder past debutant goalkeeper Marco Wolff in the Tigre goal.

Erwin Saavedra made it two after a neat pass from former Lanús forward Jorge Pereyra Diaz and with Tigre reduced to speculative shots from distance the result never looked in doubt.

Two defeats from two and a difficult trip to play Guaraní up next, Tigre’s Libertadores campaign could be over very soon.
