Atlético Tucumán snatch late win over Arsenal, Argentinos Juniors ease past Aldosivi & San Lorenzo do enough (VIDEO)

It didn’t look likely as the game crept into stoppage time but Atlético Tucumán scored twice to beat Arsenal on Monday evening and maintain their position as the only side in the Copa Diego Maradona with a 100% record.

Despite a host of chances during the opening 45 minutes the game sprang into life in the final half hour as Lucas Albertengo tapped Arsenal in front.

Atlético pulled themselves level for the first time thanks to a Matías Alustiza penalty but a clumsy Franco Mussis challenge at the other end saw Lucas Necul restore the visitors lead from the spot in the 89th minute.

Victory for Arsenal would bring them level on points with Unión in second and a place in the Fase Campeonato would have been in their own hands yet there was still time for late drama in Tucumán.

Marcelo Ortíz headed Atlético level for the second time and in the 94th minute Alustiza grabbed his second of the game.

Atlético have had no concerns in Group 1 and glide into the next round while for Arsenal it is now a little more complicated. Sergio Rondina’s side must beat Racing Club and hope that Atlético do them a favour against Unión next Saturday to stand any chance.

Group 5 is looking a little harder to predict ahead of the final round of games despite San Lorenzo wrapping up top spot with a point in La Plata after Argentinos Juniors defeated Aldosivi to go level in second.

San Lorenzo arguably did enough to pick up another three points against a struggling Estudiantes side but were unable to find the net. Diego Rodríguez hit one post and Ignacio Piatti diverted the rebound onto the other while Mariano Andújar in the Estudiantes goal was forced into further action later in the game yet neither side could find a goal.

The point was enough for Los Cuervos to confirm their position as group winners and for a change goals were not a problem for Argentinos Juniors.

Gabriel Ávalos pounced on some ponderous defending from Jonathan Schunke to open the scoring and Nicolás Silva doubled that lead before the break.

An improved start to the second half from the hosts was cut short by Ávalos scoring his second and although Aldosivi immediately pulled one back from the penalty spot through Francisco Grahl, Argentinos sealed victory late on.

The hosts saw Mario López sent off and a minutes later Juan Pucheta slotted in a fourth. Aldosivi will now need something from their trip to San Lorenzo next week while Argentinos Juniors will aim to book their place at home against Estudiantes.
