Vélez maintain perfect start, Gago records first win as Aldosivi boss & Romero hands Defensa y Justicia victory (FRIDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS)

Five straight wins in all competitions, three from three in the Copa De La Liga, Vélez Sarsfield appear to be on the right track under Mauricio Pellegrino. Two-nil winners over Argentinos Juniors in La Paternal sent the Fortineros top of Group B.

In contrast Argentinos Juniors came into this one on the back of two defeats yet started brightly forcing Lucas Hoyos into action. However unable to find an opening goal it was Vélez that struck early in the second half, Lucas Janson tapping in after Juan Lucero unselfishly squared.

Any chance of a comeback disappeared soon after when in the space of three minutes Fausto Vera and Jonathan Sandoval were both sent off after picking up their second yellow cards.

Thiago Almada wrapped up the points for Vélez in the 83rd minute pouncing on a fumble by goalkeeper Lucas Chaves.

Earlier in Mar del Plata, Fernando Gago earned the first win of his managerial career and the victory that his promising start at Aldosivi has warranted.

Arsenal were the visitors and had the better of a goalless first half but Gago’s introduction of Emanuel Iñiguez at the break had an immediate impact as the defender headed the opener.

A scrappy Federico Andrada goal doubled the advantage and the 26-year-old slid in his second in stoppage time.

And it was a first win back as manager at Defensa y Justicia for Sebastián Beccacece. Braian Romero’s deflected shot fifteen minutes from time giving the Halcón a 1-0 win over Patronato in Florencio Varela.
