Central Córdoba punish careless Aldosivi while Unión & Lanús settle for points (FRIDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS)

Central Córdoba chalked up a third win of the season to move up to third in Group A after a hard fought 2-1 win over Aldosivi in Mar del Plata.

Fernando Gago’s side have drawn praise for their style of play but continue to give away soft goals and they found themselves one-down after only eleven minutes when Emanuel Iñiguez’s wayward pass across the back sent Leonardo Sequeira through on goal to finish coolly.

The lead didn’t last long and after Federico Andrada headed his fifth goal of the season and then Central Córdoba had defender Dixon Rentería sent off for a second bookable offence it appeared as though it would be the home team going on to claim the points.

Yet another dreadful error playing out from the back before half time allowed Cristian Vega to smash the visitors in front once more.

Aldosivi naturally had the better of the side half but couldn’t find a way through and so Gago remains with only one win from his first five games as a manager.

Later in Group B, Lanús and Unión both failed to pick up maximum points and while remaining in the top two for now could slip down the table by the end of Round Five.

Unión were hosting Gimnasia and went ahead just before half time, Boca Juniors loanee Martín Cañete arriving at the back post to smash a fierce shot past Rodrigo Rey.

Gimnasia though had always been in the game and with fifteen minutes remaining Lucas Barrios was left completely unmarked six yards out to head the simplest of equalisers.

Simultaneously in Buenos Aires at the Estadio Tomás Adolfo Ducó, Lanús were taking on Huracán and despite the Granate pushing in search for a winner it ended goalless. A game lacking in chances was shaded by the visitors on the balance of play but neither side had the creative spark to find the all important goal.
