Argentina’s LPF Team of the season

With another top flight season complete and Boca Juniors crowned champions once again it’s time to look at the players who really stood out with the Golazo Team of the season.

GOALKEEPER Agustín Rossi – Boca Juniors

A great keeper wins you titles & Rossi is proof of that. 10 clean sheets & number one in the league for prevented goals (11.59) Can Boca keep him at the club? A huge loss if not.

RIGHT BACK Iván Ramírez – Central Córdoba

A tremendous bit of business for the Ferroviario as Ramírez notched 6 assists. The 27-year-old’s form forced him back into the Paraguay national team

CENTRE BACK Leonardo Morales – Gimnasia

Part of the best defence in the league Morales was instrumental in El Lobo being in the title race until late in the season & claiming a Sudamericana spot. The 31-year-old also scored 4 goals, the most for a defender.

CENTRE BACK Willer Ditta – Newell’s Old Boys

Few more physically imposing defenders, Ditta has been a revelation in Rosario. La Lepra must do everything possible to keep the Colombian. A rock at the back & a big factor behind their Sudamericana return.

LEFT BACK Lautaro Blanco – Rosario Central

No full back in the LPF gets forward or crosses a ball better than Blanco. The 23-year-old is a constant menace down the wing & will now make his move to Elche.

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD Alan Varela – Boca Juniors

A future Argentina 5 without question. Ball winner, leader, accurate, efficient passer (88% success), Varela is the assured presence in front of the defence that pushed Boca to the title.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD Brahian Alemán – Gimnasia

Gimnasia may have missed out on the Libertadores but Alemán was outstanding. 5 goals & 4 assists, the league leader for big chances created, a deadly set-piece taker, the Uruguayan was the standout #10.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD Franco Cristaldo – Huracán

A fourth place finish & a spot in the Libertadores is a huge achievement for El Globo. Cristaldo scoring 14 goals (2nd) in addition to 5 assists show how important he was. Cool under pressure too – 8 successful penalties scored (100%).

FORWARD Martín Ojeda – Godoy Cruz

Another terrific tournament from Ojeda as Godoy Cruz easily escaped relegation & pushed high up the table for a long period. 9 assists (league leader) & 15 goals + assists (3rd) Ojeda looks destined to leave Mendoza.

CENTRE FORWARD Enzo Copetti – Racing Club

Despite Racing falling short it was a great campaign for Copetti, who not only scored 11 goals but set La Academia’s intensity from the front making him a nightmare for opposition defences.

CENTRE FORWARD Mateo Retegui – Tigre

A real breakout campaign for Retegui ending the season as leading scorer with 19 goals. A hard working and mobile striker who shook off the inconsistencies of previous seasons. The only question now is what next for the 23-year-old?
