The injuries at Velez are now mounting up and they will need the players back soon if they are to compete in the league and the Copa Libertadores.

Just 2 minutes after losing Pratto Velez took the lead when Insua’s corner from the left was met by captain, Fabian Cubero. 3 minutes later it was two when a long punt downfield by Sosa was flicked on  by Rescaldani, it was Insua who controlled the ball and finished well. San Martin were reduced to 10 men before the break when Alderete was shown a red card.

On the hour mark Rescaldani wrapped things up and although Velez also had a man sent off with 20 minutes to go they held on for the win. The win puts Velez back on track and puts San Martin further in danger. Independiente will be glad to see their relegation rivals not make up anymore ground.
