San Lorenzo’s influence stretches to the Vatican

papa

Argentina is tonight celebrating the news that Jorge Bergoglio has been appointed the new Pope but this is a double celebration for San Lorenzo. Pope Francis I is a life long fan and apparently watched the team at their old stadium with his father. With the move back to a new stadium in their spiritual home of Boedo and now the power of the Pope backing the team things are looking up for El Ciclon.
Diego Maradona is also pleased with the news and modestly stated that Argentina already has the God of football and now they have the Pope too. He also said that he is keen to have an audience with the new Pope when he is next in Italy.
