Newell’s Old Boys title challenge took a slight set back last night as they travelled to the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Sarandi to face Arsenal. Having seen Lanus win earlier in the weekend they knew that a win was needed to go back to the summit. A pulsating first half saw Arsenal race into a two goal lead courtesy of two fine goals from Dario Benedetto, who was deprived a stunning first half hat trick by the woodwork. Newell’s had their chances too but were unable to find a way back into the game leaving them a point adrift of out right leaders Lanus. The second half’s major talking point was the sending off of Lanus manager, Martino who was unceremoniously shoved by irate referee, Juan Pablo Pompei. Earlier, All Boys and Estudiantes played out a rather dull 0-0 so there really isn’t much to report. GOALS HERE (AND A RATHER ANGRY REF)….
