It was always going to take an almighty comeback by Universidad de Chile after getting thumped 4-0 in Lanus in the first leg and so, as expected, it proved too much. Guillermo Barros Schelotto set his side up in a more conservative fashion to protect their lead and which contributed to a deadly dull first 45 minutes. The second half was perhaps a little better and La U did manage a consolation goal through Charles Aranquiz but with 20 minutes remaining it was too late. Lanus march on and will now face the winners of tonight’s match between River Plate and Liga de Loja.
