San Lorenzo rescue draw against Rafaela in title clash – all of Saturday’s action (video)

Ignacio Piatti drags San Lorenzo back from the brink

The increasingly exciting title race did not disappoint last night as San Lorenzo came back from two down against this season’s surprise package Atletico Rafaela. Trailing after goals from Lucas Albertengo and Diego Vera, El Ciclon looked in real danger while Rafaela were firing their way to being serious contenders. However, the simply superb Ignacio Piatti clawed San Lorenzo back from the dead with two fabulous goals. The first, a fierce free kick from the edge of the box and the second, a wonderful piece of skill as he juggled the ball past two defenders to slot home the late equaliser. The significance of the goal not lost on manager, Juan Antonio Pizzi and the bench as they leapt for joy. WATCH THE GOALS plus Argentinos Juniors draw with Quilmes and Olimpo’s 1-0 win over Rosario Central….

Pablo Garnier’s opener for Quilmes was cancelled out just before half time by a absolutely fantastic long range volley by Rodrigo Gomez. Argentinos probably did enough to edge the game but were frustrated by the visitors, the point means they can still mathematically win the title but in truth, that is the end of their challenge.

Olimpo earned back-to-back wins and a valuable 3 points with this narrow victory over Central. Dylan Gissi’s second half header was enough to win and although they remain in the drop zone, it is a step in the right direction.

Really worth watching just for Piatti’s second. No player has been involved in more goals in the Torneo Inicial than Piatti with eight goals and five assists. (Thanks to DataFutbal Argentina for that one)
