San Lorenzo have been rocked by the news that manager, Juan Antonio Pizzi has resigned and is travelling to Spain to discuss the vacant position at Valencia. Just days after capturing the Torneo Inicial, Pizzi leaves San Lorenzo and follows in the footsteps of Tata Martino, who left for Spain just after winning the league title in Argentina.
Pizzi’s representative has confirmed that he had received an offer which he could not refuse and that they “are now in the process of negotiation.”
Presumably this will be the compensation that will be paid to San Lorenzo as well as Pizzi’s contract.
Pizzi is said to be keen to return to Spain, having had a successful playing career at Tenerife, Valencia and Barcelona. Although a native Argentine Pizzi even opted to represent Spain in the nineties rather than Argentina.
The news will come as a blow to San Lorenzo after winning the Torneo Inicial. A Copa Libertadores campaign beckons and now they must start looking for a new manager to continue Pizzi’s fine work.
