Adolfo ‘Trencito’ Valencia’s impressive run of form continued yesterday, as the 22-year old, on loan from MLS side, Portland Timbers scored his sixth goal of the campaign and more importantly provided Olimpo with an invaluable 1-0 win over relegation rivals, Quilmes. A first away win of 2014 for Olimpo could not have come at a better time and Trencito superb solo effort could well end up condemning Caruso Lombardi’s side. Earlier, Estudiantes picked up another draw with yet another clean sheet, this time in Rosario against Central, a result which leaves them outright leaders, at least for 24 hours. And in the late kickoff, San Lorenzo welcomed Newell’s Old Boys to the Nuevo Gasómetro and with eyes on their crucial Libertadores last 16 tie with Gremio on Wednesday, it is fair to say San Lorenzo did not appear to interested in this. Newell’s continue to look a little rudderless at present and so another goalless draw was not entirely surprising.
