Argentine Team Doctor, Daniel Martínez confirmed the news that midfielder, Ángel Di María would miss the Semi-Final against the Netherlands with the injury sustained against Belgium. However, the Real Madrid player may be back in time for a potential Final and there was further positive news, Sergio Agüero has returned to full training and his available for Wednesday’s match.
Given that the initial announcement for both Agüero and Di María would miss the remainder of the tournament, Dr Martínez was more optimistic of their chances.
“We have everything for Di María to recover in time. We hope that he can play in the Final“.
Dr Martínez confirmed the injury that had been reported, “Angel has a Grade 1 muscle injury on the right quadricep rectus. Fortunately, it is a milder muscle injury.”
The better news was that Manchester City striker, Sergio Agüero has now returned to training and is available for selection against the Netherlands. “Sergio has done three practices already but he is ready to play.”
It is perhaps more likely that Agüero will start on the substitutes bench for the Semi Final with Ezequiel Lavezzi keeping his place in Sabella’s starting eleven. The bigger question will be who will replace Di María? Enzó Perez came on his place on Saturday and will be in contention, as will Ricky Álvarez and Maxi Rodríguez.
