Italian champions, Juventus look to have won the race to sign 21-year-old Argentine, Juan Manuel Iturbe from Hellas Verona. A €25 million fee has been agreed and the Turin side will unveil Iturbe on Friday.
According to Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport the deal has been agreed by the clubs and the player and needs only to be officially confirmed on Friday. The deal will see Hellas Verona receive €25 million plus potential add-ons making it closer to the €30 million that they had been holding out for.
A tidy profit on a player they only just signed permanently some weeks ago for €15 million after triggering the purchase option of their loan deal from Porto.
Last season, playing on the right of Hellas Verona’s attack, Iturbe scored 8 goals and made 4 assists and finally appeared to be transforming into the player that he had the potential to be since his days playing for Cerro Porteño in Paraguay.
However, it is a huge amount to pay for a player who has had one good season in Serie A and even then the criticism was that he did not perform on a consistant basis.
Iturbe is a great talent with pace, dribbling skills and an eye for goal and could prove to be a great asset at the top level but at this stage in his career, €25 million seems excessive.

A good signing for them, hope he gets regular football, great blog too.
Thanks Sean.
Is a good signing but wonder about the cost. If Iturbe continues to progress and finds a bit of consistency then he will be well worth it.
Playing regularly for Juve with Champions League football will be good news for him and Argentina. Need these younger players coming through after the World Cup
This is a weird deal. €25m was what Barca demanded for Sanchez before the World Cup and Juve were unwilling to match that. As we all know Sanchez is very much a proven player both at Barca and in Serie A. Iturbe, not so much. This is a huge risk I think. I hope it pays off. Now we just need to get Morata and Berardi and we could have one of the youngest most talented front trio in world football.
I guess the cost of potential. Sanchez is unlikely to improve over the next few seasons while Iturbe could potentially take off. The nature of Verona just paying what was for them a large sum also drove the price up. They just wanted a quick profit. Certainly an exciting lineup for Juve in the future though.
