Manchester United wait nervously on the news of the injury to midfielder, Ángel Di María after he limped out of Argentina’s friendly against Portugal, following a hefty challenge from fellow United player, Nani.
The incident occurred in the 18th minute when Nani, who is away from Old Trafford on loan at Sporting Lisbon, caught Di María’s right foot when attempting to tackle the Argentine star. Although El Fideo was able to continue after treatment he was replaced in the second half.
Argentina manager, Gerardo Martino revealed after the match, “We don’t think it’s anything serious. It was quite a tough blow he took. It was a tough knock. It cut the skin a bit.”
“But we have had a look and are evaluating the situation. We are looking at some x-rays, some images we took, but in spite of that we do not think it’s too serious.”
Since then there has been no news of the x-rays and so Manchester United will wait and see if the 26-year-old will be available for their match against Arsenal this weekend.
Di María remains confident he will be able to play, provided the swelling doesn’t continue: “It was just a blow. I hope it doesn’t swell any more so I can play at the weekend.”
