Humberto Grondona has named his 23-man squad for the upcoming South American under-20 championship and there is a welcome return for Atlético Madrid forward, Ángel Correa. The tournament, which is held in Uruguay kicks off in one week and Grondona’s squad not only provides Correa with his first taste of competitive football since his heart surgery but also includes a number of potential future Albiceleste stars.
Marcelo Gallardo’s young River Plate side contribute plenty to the squad with the highly regarded Emanuel Mammana named in defence, the skillful Tomás Martínez in midfield and Sebastián Druissi and Gio Simeone up front, after both had plenty of playing time at club level over the past few months.
Elsewhere, Fulham supporters will be interested to see their recent signing, Tiago Casasola named among the defenders while young forward, Maxi Rolón of Barcelona will also be looking to catch the eye.
Argentina begin their campaign on the fourteenth when they face Ecuador before matches against Paraguay, Peru and Bolivia in Group A. The top three will qualify for the final stage and while Argentina may not have the best record in this competition it is an important tournament given that qualification to both the under-20 World Cup and 2016 Olympics is up for grabs.
