After the somewhat shambolic performance of Boca against Racing at the weekend, Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s side gave a much more composed and improved performance as they drew 2-2 with Vélez Sarsfield. Pablo Pérez made a goal scoring debut to give Boca the lead with a deft flick but Milton Caraglio reversed the score line with two towering headers either side of half time. This perhaps highlighted a weakness in the Boca backline that Arruabarrena will be hoping is resolved by his influx of defensive reinforcements. Emmanuel Gigliotti equalised with a powerful header of his own to level the match but this was very much the dress rehearsal. The two sides will meet again in a weeks time, and this time a Copa Libertadores place will be on the line. The ligitamacy of this is of course highly contentious but last night’s friendly gave both sides an early chance to feel each other out.
