The goals not only put him ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo for hat-tricks but also saw Messi draw level with the Real Madrid striker on 30 goals in 2014/15.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the first half and after Gerard Pique added a second, Messi took over. For the simplicity of this opening goals, the third was another piece of magic, as Messi finished off a nice passing move, bursting between two defenders and rounding the keeper to roll the ball in.

The visitors pulled a goal back before Messi turned provider and released Suarez for his second of the match.
