Independiente’s search for a win inside the Estadio Libertadores de América goes on after Belgrano came from behind to seal a 2-1 victory and add more pressure to Jorge Almirón. Captain, Federico Mancuello, this week linked with a call-up for the national side, put Independiente in front with a superbly struck free kick from distance but El Rojo remain a fragile side and Belgrano took advantage. After a strong penalty claim was denied, Emiliano Rigoni volleyed the visitors level and with the game delicately balanced, a defensive error by Emanuel Aguilera and a tug on Lucas Parodi provided Chiqui Pérez the opportunity to win it from the penalty spot. The former Boca man made no mistake and Independiente fell to a first defeat of the season.

Maxi Rodríguez proved to the the difference again as the veteran midfielder’s double gave Newell’s victory over Crucero del Norte. The first came via the penalty spot after Ignacio Scocco had been up-ended by Germán Caffa and although La Lepra were dominant they were unable to find the second until ten minutes from time. A weak clearance from Caffa fell to Rodríguez and he immediately returned the ball into the unguarded net to ensure victory. Maxi has now been directly involved in eighteen of the last twenty five scored by Newell’s and his importance to the side cannot be understated.

Independiente  1 – 2  Belgrano

Newell’s Old Boys  2 – 0  Crucero del Norte
