Rosario Central’s fine start to the season continued on Saturday afternoon in Bahía Blanca as they chalked up a fourth straight victory and striker Marco Ruben hit the first hat-trick of the league. Juan Manuel Cobo gave Olimpo a surprising lead with a vicious 35-yard shot which despite moving in the air should have perhaps been dealt with by Mauricio Caranta. It took just two minutes after half time for Central to recover and the tide of the game changed completely. Franco Cervi found Marco Ruben with a superb through ball and the 28-year-old stroked the ball under Nereo Champagne for the equaliser. Ten minutes later, Ruben added his second and shortly before the final whistle he completed his hat-trick. Beating the offside trap, Ruben carried the ball in the right channel before producing a measured lob over Champagne and confirming the victory.
Nueva Chicago are still waiting for their first victory of the season after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Godoy Cruz. At times Nicolás Tauber’s side are recklessly open and on one of the occasions where the visitors attacked at a pace during the first half they were able to benefit from the huge spaces behind the full-backs, resulting in Leandro Fernández slotting in his third goal of the season. When the home side had Mauricio Arias sent off midway through the second half any hope of a comeback dissipated and in injury time, Kevin Mercado added a second.
Aldosivi picked up their second point of the season after a 1-1 draw with Quilmes, aided by the first half sending off of full-back Leonel Bontempo. Rubén Ramírez had given Quilmes a lead in only the 2nd minute with a superb shot from distance but after Bontempo’s dismissal it allowed Aldosivi the entire second half with a man advantage. Eventually this pressure told and the lively Roger Martínez levelled after a neat one-two. Quilmes held on for a point while Aldosivi continue to search for their elusive first win.
