San Lorenzo now haven’t won in three and with Copa Libertadores qualification still in the balance, pressure is increasing on Pablo Guede. Sergio Rondina’s revitalised Arsenal were the visitors to the Nuevo Gasómetro and were good value for all three points over Guede’s rotated side. Germán Ferreyra’s stinging volley from the edge of the penalty area a minute after half time gave the visitors the lead and before the hour mark, Mariano Barbieri doubled the advantage on the break. Los Cuervos failed to react and could find themselves five points behind Rosario Central, if the zona one leaders defeat Patronato. Arsenal meanwhile have won four times already this season and are up to fourth, a considerable improvement after a torrid 2015.

Independiente made the short trip to Banfield in search of back-to-back victories for the first time this season and despite not being at their best were able to see off the challenge of their hosts. Giovani Simeone headed El Taladro in front but Independiente were back level after 34 minutes when Nicolás Tagliafico’s fierce volley whistled past Hilario Navarro. Minutes later and El Rojo led, Emiliano Rigoni’s corner flicked in by Diego Vera at the near post before the game’s moment of controversy. Santiago Silva  was convinced he had brought the home side level but his shot was incredibly hacked off the line by Víctor Cuesta and various replays still failed to conclusively prove if the ball had crossed the line. This stroke of luck gave Independiente a little lift and after half time, substitute Martín Benítez crashed in a third when his powerful shot appeared to catch Navarro off guard. Banfield’s defending continues to cause concern while Independiente are at least winning but are far from convincing.

Tigre travelled to San Juan looking to follow up their remarkable 5-0 win over Atlético Tucumán but were brought back to reality with a 1-0 defeat against San Martín. The home side were good value for the win but had to wait until the 70th minute for Ezequiel Montagna to score the only goal of the game.

Banfield  1 –  3  Independiente

San Martín  1 – 0  Tigre

San Lorenzo  0 – 2  Arsenal de Sarandí
