It might be international week but San Lorenzo travelled to Rome to visit their most famous supporter, Pope Francis and face Roma in a friendly match to raise money for the victims of the recent earthquake.
Both sides created chances and Bogdan Lobont and Sebastián Torrico were kept on their toes before the deadlock was eventually broken in the 52d minute.
Leandro Paredes gave another reminder that he could be the deep-lying playmaker for Argentina’s not too distant future with a superb first time ball over the top and Juan Manuel Iturbe raced clear to thrash the ball past Torrico.
San Lorenzo were almost immediately level when Fernando Belluschi twisted away from Paredes on the edge of the penalty area before rifling a shot into the bottom corner but it was Roma who had the final say.
Francesco Totti released Bruno Peres down the right and the full-back flicked the ball over the head of Juan Mercier before squaring the ball for Keba Coly to tap in from a few yards out.
