After suffering defeat to Lanús on the opening weekend of the season, Boca Juniors were looking to gain a little momentum over the international break and managed to do that to some extent with a 2-0 win over Paraguayan club Libertad in a wet and windy Estadio Centenario de Chaco.
Carlos Tevez had come under scrutiny following another lacklustre display last weekend but received a boost by scoring the opening goal on Saturday evening.
Libertad failed to clear a corner from the right and Tevez was unmarked in the six yard box to smash in a volley from close range.
Boca were good value for their lead and shortly after half time, Walter Bou scored his first since signing from Gimnasia with a smart near post finish.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side could have extended the lead but the friendly served its purpose and now Boca must return to Primera action and pick up their first three points of the season.
