Argentina lifted their first ever Futsal World Cup title on Saturday evening with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Russia in the Coliseo el Pueblo in Cali.
It was a first time in the final for both sides and so history was to be made whatever the outcome but La Albiceleste were able to do that which their footballing counterparts were unable to in Brazil in 2014.
Russia led early through Eder Lima but it prompted an immediate response from Argentina as Constantino Vaporaki equalised before Leandro Cuzzolino converted a second from the penalty spot.
Lima scored his second of the game shortly after half time but once more Argentina roared straight back. Alan Brandi scored two in two minutes to put La Albiceleste 4-2 in front and when Vaporaki volleyed a fifth into an empty net from inside his own half, the trophy appeared to be heading to Argentina.
Dmitri Lyskov pulled a goal before Lima became the first player to complete a hat-trick in a Futsal World Cup final but it was all in vain.
Argentina held on and were crowned world champions for the first time in their history.
