There were some signs of recovery in Arsenal’s defeat to Newell’s Old Boys last weekend but on Friday evening, Humberto Grondona’s side earned a much needed three points in their bid to avoid relegation thanks to Juan Sánchez Sotelo’s late winner over Huracán.
Juan Brunetta’s wonderful free kick had given Arsenal the lead and against a direct relegation rival holding on was vital for the Viaducto so when Norberto Briasco headed El Globo level it looked like another sucker punch for the visitors.
Three minutes from time, Arsenal capitalised on some dreadful Huracán defending and Sánchez Sotelo was on hand to slot the ball into the net and seal the win.
The three points lifts Arsenal out of the relegation zone for now and the challenge now is to push further away while El Globo are nervously looking over their shoulder.
A little later, Lanús were frustrated by San Martín and despite dominating for large parts were unable to find the critical pass or the opportunity to see of their visitors.
San Martín are safe from relegation but dwell near the foot of the Primera table while Lanús have seen any hopes of a title defence disappear as focus is firmly on the Copa Libertadores.
