Nacional B: Heinze’s Argentinos Juniors lead the way but things remain as tight as ever

Darren Paul returns with an update on the exciting Nacional B…

The Primera B Nacional is as tight as it has ever been, and even after 26 rounds of football just ten points separates the top 8 sides. Down the bottom of the table things are just as close, with Crucero just 5 points off 21st placed Boca Unidos, but only 7 points from 16th placed Gimnasia de Jujuy. We head into round 27 of the season, let’s review what went on in round 26.

League leaders Guillermo Brown had their game called off on Saturday due to torrential flooding. Second placed Argentinos Juniors took full advantage and smashed Sportivo Estudiantes by a final score of 4-1 with Fydriszewski scoring a hatrick, leaving them top of the table. They head away to Douglas Haig this weekend, who had a good 1-0 win away at title chasing Nueva Chicago.

Third placed Chacarita Juniors edged past San Martin de Tucuman at 1-0, thanks to a first half away goal by Salinas. Chacarita will travel North to play bottom placed Crucero del Norte who were beaten 2-1 by 5 th placed Instituto and have now lost or drawn their last 5 games.

Sixth placed Ferro will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 0-0 draw away to Ind Rivadavia, but standing in their way will be Ramon Santamaria who are on a great run of form that has seen them rise to 7th, level on points with Ferro and Instituto. Ramon Santamaria beat All Boys by a single goal on Tuesday evening 1-0 having played the final 50 minutes with just ten men. All Boys will be hoping to bounce back as they host Flandria on Saturday evening.

Near the bottom of the table, 22nd placed Atletico Parana will host Gimnasia de Jujuy. Parana were comfortably beaten by Los Andes 3-1 last weekend, whereas Gimnasia de Jujuy put in a dominant performance to beat Villa Dalmine 2-1. Dalmine will host Nueva Chicago and will need to play much better on Saturday if they hope to stand a chance against the promotion chasers.

21st placed Boca Unidos lost at home to Almagro 2-1. Almagro took the lead after 7 minutes through Luciatti, before Nunez equalised on the 29th minutes. Reniero netted the winner for Almagro with 2 minutes to go to keep Boca in the danger zone. Boca Unidos head to Central Cordoba, who will be fresh following a weekend off (every weekend one team has a bye week) and who drew 0-0 with Almagro in their last fixture. Almagro will host Ind Rivadavia on Friday night.

Guillermo Brown will host Juventud Unida on Sunday afternoon and a win could see them return to the top of the table. Juventud Unida were beaten 3-1 by Brown de Adrogue thanks to a hat trick from Cristian Chavez, a result that will give Guillermo Brown even greater confidence heading into the fixture. Brown de Adrogue will be hosting Los Andes on Friday night to kick off the round.
